With an average of 3.5 hectares of banana per producer and 13,721 tons imported per year. Colombia is considered as the fourth largest banana exporter in the world, with 90% of the country\u2019s production being exported. This fruit is found on the shelves of supermarkets and groceries stores around the world. It is a natural delicacy from which no one escapes. Despite the fact that the sector has been hit by inflation, the increase in the cost of living, the supply crisis and the difficulty in the production of fertilizers. Bananas continue to be one of Colombia\u2019s most valuable products. More and more farmers are betting on the banana sector. Today it generates employment for more than one million families, which is equivalent to approximately 2.5 million people in the country. There are around 8,000 banana producers, who are mainly concentrated in the areas of Urab\u00e1, northwestern Antioquia, in the south of Cauca, in the central zone of Colombia in Caldas, Quind\u00edo, Risaralda, and Tolima, and in the zone of the eastern plains.
Our banana producers are mostly concentrated in the department of Tolima, and although they are small farmers.
